Maple "Gold" bi-metal short
track ice blades combine an aluminum-alloy tube (7000 series)
with hardened steel-alloy blade (64 Rockwell, 1.15 mm thickness).
Featuring a radical new mounting design, the tube allows for a
consistent bend along the entire blade length. This "cup" design
allows force to be applied efficiently directly to the blade.
The materials were specifically chosen to allow tube and blade
to flex in concert under the
stress of cornering. This flex allows for maximum blade
"footprint," hence better holding power on the ice.
Suggested price: $299.

Maple blades were designed by Canadian
National Team coach Marcel Lacroix and Mogema designer Johan Bennink.
Materials testing and simulations were conducted at the University of
Calgary. Maple blades have already scored impressive wins at the World
Short Track Championships and olympics
.

Zandstra Sports
Zandstra's new BigBend blades actually have
a patented built-in bending mechanism. It helps you get the exact bend
you need, and the more you bend it, the stiffer it becomes.
Zandstra's short track ice blades combine a high grade toolsteel runner
with an extruded aluminum alloy tube (with integrated mounting plates).
Aluminum brackets (cups) mount the blades to Bont-style boots, allowing
versatility for both short track ice and inline speedskating. These blades
are now available in two grades.
The
Chromaflex is a stainless steel alloy
that stays sharper longer. It is 1.4mm thick with 60 Rockwell hardness.
The Bi-Metal is actually two grades of
steel electronically bonded. The speed steel at the edge is 64 Rockwell
hardness and only 1.25mm thick. This blade is available in lengths 13.5"
to 18.2" and is distinguished by the black anodized tube.
PENNINGTON Speed Equipment
Pennington blades are made of high-strength, lightweight,
computer-designed alloy extrusion with off-center steel blade
mounting. The one-piece extrusion has three forward/backward
bracket mounts for adjustable angles. The bi-metal blade is
hardened and tempered, and precision ground. Available in 0.5" increments,
15 - 17.5."
Pennington jigs provide sturdy precision. The
Titan 005 jig is constructed
of a computer-designed alloy extrusion (aluminum and
glass-reinforced nylon) that clamps to a square steel
center tube.
Features quick-release levers, sturdy construction and includes
adjustable back blade stop for fast and easy positioning.
Collapsible and easy to assemble.
The Blackhawk 303 is a jig for the specialist. It features
fine tune adjustments to give 2- or 4-point contact for
extra blade control. It's strong and rigid yet easy to
assemble and carry.
Viking short track blades have
incredible glide characteristics due to super-hard, super-thin
bi-metal blades, with shorter radius on traditional steel tubes
(62 Rockwell hardness, 1.1 mm thickness), 12 mm rocker in 34-46
cm length, with standard short track mounting.
Norton 11.5" sharpening stone
is a double-sided combination oil sharpening stone.
